Network Planning
The planning of a cellular network is critical for optimal and controlled growth. Starting with a good initial design, the optimization constant process is facilitated thus managing to keep the performance indicators and the user satisfaction at outstanding levels. This planning requires that nodes are configured for adequate capacity and performance to meet the growing demand for voice and data traffic. GBS has extensive experience in network design that began with analog/2G technologies and continues with the most advanced technologies of the market. GBS has developed integrated approaches for the development of the network that has proven to be very efficient, and consistently helps clients improve their operation.

Services we provide in this domain include:
  • Analyze infrastructure requirements
  • Perform assessments and accurately predict performance
  • Plan for current and future capacity needs through effective use of existing spectrum
  • Consideration of future traffic types to include multi-service radio network
  • Use of Radio Network Planning (RNP) tools for advanced site solutions
  • Optimal combination of requirements for a cost-effective network
  • Complete network planning process sufficient for network design and pre-launch optimization
Network Design
GBS teams have developed and delivered efficient network designs tailored to meet the needs of our customer. GBS has wide international experience in the management of the best techniques, tools and knowledge to implement these types of projects.

Tasks that comprise this service include:
  • LAN/PCS, Cellular (CDMA, UMTS and LTE) and Backhaul network design
  • Multi-service network design
  • Microwave path and radio propagation design
  • Technology evaluation and traffic balancing
  • Design for maximum availability and best quality of service
Network Capacity Design
In this modern society, the most advanced networks (such as third generation onwards) include multimedia connections with high image quality and advanced access to information and services in public or private networks always ensuring high transmission rates. This, along with the network evolution and the rapid technology changes, makes the network capacity design a critical issue for the optimum functioning of the end-to-end services. GBS offers these services for a range of technologies and vendors ensuring that all the customer’s requirements are covered. This service is given in network operations, after knowing the information of the marketing and cell planning areas.

Below are the detailed service tasks provided during network capacity design and expansion:
  • Measure and analyze current throughput rates to plan for future capacity
  • Identify congestions and balance services across infrastructure
  • Analyze available resources: BW composition, air resources, link budget, noise, interference
  • Determine requirements for capacity addition: Alternative equipment, additional transceivers, extra BW, soft capacity for CDMA etc.
  • Ensure efficient use of investments and make the most cost-effective capacity design
Network Traffic Balance
GBS has been successful in projects that involve redistribution of existing resources of the network to serve a greater number of events and avoid traffic congestion. This traffic balancing ensures maximum service availability by performing traffic distribution and effective usage of the bandwidth. This type of project brings a direct benefit to the network operator in terms of incomes and capital expenditures and certainly improves the user perception.

GBS is responsible for delivering recommendations at all levels, regarding physical and logical parameters and redistribution of the actual capacity (from radios or channel elements to the capacity of central processors).
Network Capacity Expansion
Network capacity expansion is a service that GBS offers thanks to the extensive knowledge and constant development of our consultants. Capacity expansion facilitates the addition of new services to the network and handles growing traffic needs. The diagram below shows the services we offer for network capacity expansion and the benefits they provide to the customers.

This capacity expansion activity should be done according to traffic estimated projections and knowing the network growth strategies.
Indoor Coverage Design
Although operators are in constant periods of rollout for placing new sites in service, the challenge of indoor coverage still remains. Indoor coverage increases potential airtime and generates higher traffic and revenues.

We identify the existing and required traffic levels, review the key propagation effects considering the indoor blockages, consider RF effects and design or upgrade single or multi technology (cellular & Wi-Fi) indoor coverage scenarios. All capacity sharing options (between floors, etc.) are considered and the network optimized for maximum coverage and quality.

GBS offers a comprehensive solution for designing indoor coverage in a particular site (offices, malls, buildings, etc.), and we take into account the interaction of these systems with the outdoor network to help operators and suppliers in these major challenges.
Frequency Planning, Design and Management
It is important to have a proper frequency plan for the new networks to be placed in operation. This allows subscribers to maintain quality and ensure that key indicators can be kept in their targets.

GBS offers this type of services. Our staff knows the best strategies for managing spectrum and frequency channels, especially with the sophistication and advanced of frequency planning tools. In a similar way, GBS offers the delivery of a plan for the PN Code planning or Scrambling Codes planning for CDMA and UMTS networks, respectively.
